Why send my organette to Roller Organ Repair & Restorations for restoration? I specialize in restoring only American and European Roller Organ's and Organette's. For the most part, clock shops and/or Piano repair shops do not specialize in organette's or roller organs, in fact I've had many shops send the organette's here for restoration through the years. In a lot of cases, well meaning amateur repairs can almost destroy an organette by using modern glues, improper bellows material and incorrect leather which can only make a restoration more difficult later. These instruments require the correct materials I use to be restored to their original working condition, anything less will only compromise the instrument's operation.
Can I still buy music for Roller Organ's & Organette's? Yes, reproduction and newer music is still produced today for a variety of instruments! New reproduction music rolls can be purchased at Schmidt's Music Rolls and range in price from $8 to $95 depending on the type of organette. Cobs,
or rollers, used on Roller Organs are still produced today at Honor Rolls for $21 each.
Why does my Organette sound out of tune? All American made organette's used brass reeds which can unfortunately fatigue, go out of tune or break with age. Some of the more expensive European organette's offered steel reeds as an upgrade which are less likely to fail and hold tune much better. At Roller Organ Repair and Restorations all reeds are cleaned and re-tuned in all restorations.
Why does my Roller Organ play the wrong notes sometimes? In most cases it's simply a case of the cob carriage assembly and valve tips being out of alignment which causes the cob to track incorrectly. Side-to-side movement of the pallet valves can also be a factor and in severe cases it can be caused by worn gears and/or mechanical parts.
